Translation vs. Localization – Which One Does Your Content Need?

Translation focuses on converting words from one language to another while maintaining the original meaning—ideal for documents, books, or manuals.

Localization, on the other hand, adapts content to fit the cultural, linguistic, and technical preferences of a specific market. This includes adjusting everything from measurements to cultural references and even design elements—perfect for websites, software, or marketing campaigns.

For example, when sharing a recipe:

  • Translation = translating the recipe text
  • Localization = adapting it for different units, ingredients, and cooking practices.
